The off-season: where elite athletes are built

Why is it that athletes every year seem to become bigger, faster, stronger and more athletic every year?

And why is it that some athletes seem to come back from the off-season looking like completely new athletes?

the off-season

The Off-Season is the only time where athletes can invest all of their precious time & energy focusing on the specific things that will make them better athletes. Every athlete is going to squat, deadlift, run and play in the pre-season and in-season. If this is your only training and you want to separte yourself from the rest, modern sport has changed, and this is simply not enough.

Only a few athletes will take advantage of the off-season. These athletes will grow in the areas they need to come back elite, not just good enough, and fly past their opponents.

During the season it’s impossible to fully devote our time & energy to being the best athlete we can be. We have to focus on competing and winning. We show up to training & leave everything on the field. This is fantastic, and it’s our favourite thing to see our athletes perform. But to be the best you can be, you must have both sides of the coin, PERFORMANCE and DEVELOPMENT.

The perfect time for this development? Off-Season.

the ethos performance team

Our passion is YOU.

We care about what makes you tick, what makes you perform, and what still needs to be done to take you where you haven’t been yet. What stands in between all athletes and their development is, unfortunately, the season itself. And by the time pre-season has started, usually, it’s too late to make up for the time you spent “resting and recovering”.

The Off-Season is where physical ability meets skill. If you never develop the body, your natural ability will never take you as far as you could go.

performance training is more than just a program

Why not..?

We know that in order to help you succeed, we first must understand the following:

  • Your strengths

  • Your weaknesses

  • Your injury history

  • Your sport & position

  • Your schedule

With this understanding, we build your perfect program. At Ethos Performance, you will never do a session without the guidance of a coach, surrounded by driven athletes on the ride with you every step of the way doing a program made for one goal, creating the very best version of you.

OUR MISSION IS TO SURROUND YOU WITH LIKE-MINDED ATHLETES AND DRIVEN PROFESSIONALS, SO YOU ALWAYS HAVE A HOME BASE FOR YOUR PERFORMANCE

What’s the plan?

testing

To get the most out of you, we first must understand your strengths, weaknesses and talents that make you the athlete you are.

The Ethos Performance Testing Battery is built to give us the most thorough assessment possible so we know exactly what to focus on in your training, and for our field athletes this is not limited to gym testing. On-field sprint and change of direction mechanics, sprint speed and conditioning will all be assessed so we know exactly what you need.

PLANNING

At Ethos Performance we pride ourselves on our ability to give the individual athlete exactly what they need to thrive.

This is even more than performance specifics, you will have the opportunity to sit down with one of our coaches to discuss results, what they mean for you and how we will plan most effectively.

And don’t forget you have a team behind you. Should it be required, we won’t hesitate to contact your support system (private physiotherapists or team S&C) or put you in contact with our valued contacts to make sure we cover all bases to ensure your program leaves no stone unturned.

TRAINING

Here is where we get down to business. Everything we planned and tested for gets put to work. Your personal program will be made based on your plan and test results and will be fully watched over by our fantastic team.

You will have access to our state of the art facility, coaching and if at any point you want to discuss your program or need modifications, the team is ready.

What Results Can You Expect In an Off-season

Depending on your specific goals & needs to optimise your performance, in a 3-5 month off-season, we regularly see athletes experience results such as:

  1. Gain up to 5-10 inches in their vertical leap

  2. Get 5-20% faster

  3. Gain 1-5 kgs of muscle

  4. Drop down to 8-10% bodyfat

  5. Increase work capacity 10-50%

INSERT Useful adaptation graph to show the difference between an off-season & in-season in terms of adaptation

What we can focus on in the off-season

  1. Speed development

  2. Elasticity

  3. Power

  4. Strength

  5. Hypertrophy

  6. Muscle Mass

  7. Skill Development

  8. Breaking Bad habits.

We’re back!! You’ve finished the season, battered, bruised and itching for more. You could even have just suffered an injury. Like the hard worker you are, we know that you know that there’s an extra level in your performance that you wish you could hit, you might have even accepted that the athlete you wish you could be won’t ever be.

We can only peak for a certain amount of time. A proper off-season helps us to ensure this peak is as high as it can, at the right time. EXAMPLE GRAPH.

The Critical Mistake Most Athletes Make In Their Off-Seasons That Causes them to stay the same…

They don’t plan appropriately.

They keep doing what they’ve always done.

They dont’ do a needs analysis & look at what they really need to do!!!

There’s a reason why they use the term: Summer Legs

For NBA players they know what a proper off-season can do for their performance.

You will never see Steph doing this in game because he plays too often, however if his season was shorter & he had a bigger off-season, perhaps this would be possible…
