Meer Awny
Director and Head Coach

Meer is the Director and head coach at Ethos Performance. His initial experience in the industry began during his study at the University of Sydney where he completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise & Sports Science). Progressing from formal education completion, Meer received his Australian Strength & Conditioning Association accreditation and went onto volunteering at the New South Wales Institute of Sport. During this time, he saw a need for developing a home for the combat athlete in Sydney, and so he sought out experience internationally. This guided Meer to spend 6 weeks under the tutelage of Loren Landow in Denver, Colorado at the worldly recognised facility, Landow Performance.

Upon returning to Sydney, Meer has established the premier facility for combat athletes in the country. He and his team have facilitated the development of Australia’s best combat athlete’s, ranging from UFC, Bellator, ONE, and top ranked boxers across the world. The development of the systems at Ethos Performance cater to a wide range of athlete’s and levels. These include amateur & youth level boxers, wrestler’s, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Mixed Martial Artist’s (MMA) through to semi-professional and professional athletes across a variety of sports.

Meer’s philosophy is centred on maximising individual performance through the cultivation of a system designed to bring the best from all fields to his athlete’s. Careful attention is placed on the integration of various factors that shape the overall long-term development of the athlete. Success through these methods has seen him work alongside top ranked boxers in the world such as #1 George Kambosos JNR, UFC fighters Tai Tuivasa, Tyson Pedro & Josh Culibao, Bellator athlete’s Arlene Blencowe, as well as various domestic and international medallists across other combat sports.

A National presenter for leading organisations, Meer has been engaged in speaking on subjects related to his field for the ASCA, PLAE, ACU UNIVERSITY, and is continuously providing educational and mentoring opportunities through these relationships.

When he isn’t coaching you’ll find Meer enjoying coffee, reading, being outdoors, spending time as an uncle, and training his dog.

Achieving success in the athletic realm is amazing, however, the development of relationships that last well beyond the sporting journey has to be the most rewarding feeling as a coach

Tyrell Navarro
Senior Strength & Conditioning Coach/ Exercise Physiologist

Tyrell grew up watching action movies which pushed him into Karate then later moved onto Kickboxing/Muay Thai and BJJ. He completed his Bachelor of Health Science (Sports & Exercise) at the University of Western Sydney and Masters of Exercise Physiology at the University of Sydney. This interest in martial arts fuelled his desire to help the fight community that supported him growing up as he noticed there was a need for better training practices and longevity for these athletes.

Over the years working alongside a host of other professionals from Physiotherapists, Exercise Physiologists, Dieticians, and other Strength & Conditioning coaches enabled him to work between sports performance centres and rehabilitation clinics. During his time within the industry, he reached out to Meer who further encouraged his decision to seek knowledge and coaching experience overseas.

Tyrell flew to the States to intern at the renown fight gym American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida under the mentorship of Head Strength & Conditioning coach Phil Daru. While in the States he also spent time with the team at Landow Performance in Denver, Colorado. During his internship at both facilities, he was able to work alongside UFC, Bellator, ONE FC and PFL fighters. Tyrell’s philosophy aims at combining his knowledge of sports performance with rehabilitation to get the best results for the athlete.

If Tyrell isn’t coaching, then you’ll see him experimenting with new smoked meat recipes, lifting, binging on comedy, or trying to build something out of nothing.

Training is not just about performance. It’s a means of building character, resilience and community.
— Tyrell
